AI Undress Apps Evade Bans on App Store & Google Play

Ana sayfa / News

A new report from the Tech Transparency Project (TTP) has exposed significant oversight issues within major application marketplaces. The investigation reveals that AI undress apps, which use artificial intelligence to digitally remove clothing from images, are widely available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. While the problem of non-consensual image generation isn’t new, the report highlights a critical change: the technical barriers to creating such images in seconds have now been almost entirely eliminated.

Millions in Revenue: How Stores Profit from Banned AI Undress Apps

While traditional image editing tools have long enabled such misuse, artificial intelligence has dramatically accelerated the process. Many developers have created applications to capitalize on this capability, with some even advertising these features openly. Although Apple and Google claim to enforce strict moderation to keep their app stores safe—a service they use to justify their commission fees—it appears that certain app categories are slipping through the cracks.

According to the published report, the identified applications have been downloaded more than 705 million times worldwide, generating over $117 million in revenue. Since Google and Apple take a percentage of this income, they are directly profiting from the activities of apps that violate their own policies. For instance, the Google Play Store explicitly prohibits apps that objectify individuals or claim to see through clothing, even for prank purposes.

Widespread Availability and Failed Moderation

The TTP notes that simple searches for terms like “nudify” or “undress” are enough to find apps that advertise with these keywords. In tests conducted by the TTP using fake images of women, a staggering 55 Android apps and 47 iOS apps successfully fulfilled requests for nudity or face swapping. Alarmingly, at least one of these applications was rated as suitable for users aged 9 and over on the App Store.

In one test detailed in the report, an application that rejected a direct request for nudity still accepted prompts for a person dancing in a bikini and offered templates like “rip clothes.” The report concludes by emphasizing that these major tech companies are failing to effectively moderate their platforms or enforce their own policies when it comes to such harmful applications.
